What's on the box, Mr. Stripey Socks??

So, the blog's been feeling a little neglected for the last while, but all that's about to change!!! We have entered the second semester of 2010-2011 and we're looking forward to seeing the rest of the academic year out in style!!

Last week saw the long-awaited producti0n of 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' go to stage. The snow managed to postpone it before Christmas, but you can't keep a good show down! And what a good show it was!!! With a great reception, the play received rave reviews from the audience, being hailed by audience members as one of the best Drama production they had seen in a long time. Congratulations to director Brenda Foulds for an amazing job done. Set to head to the Irish Student Drama Associations annual festival at the start of next month, we can't wait to see what kind of reaction it receives on a national front.

This week sees the production of 'The Mercy Seat' by Neil La Bute and directed by our very own Public Relations Officer Mike King, taking to the stage. Opening tonight in the Aula Maxima, our second production to take place there in 2 weeks, we are expecting this show to go down a treat. Making this 9/11 based play even more special is its timing, as this year marks the 10year anniversary of the American tragedy. With our second slot at ISDA reserved for this emotional masterpiece, NUI Maynooth is hoping to wow this year.

Casting for our Black Box Festival has taken place as well as for the Irish Production- in association with An Cuallacht and the University's Irish Department. As well as that, plans for a devising workshop with the Abbey's José Miguel Jiminez are in the works, regular meet-ups are being planned and much much more besides leaving plenty more dramatic fun to be expected in the coming weeks.

Can I get a 'yeeeeehaw'???!!!

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Auditions

NUIM Drama Society/The Roscian Players is proud to announce that it will be staging 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. The performance will be taking place in the Aula Maxima on November 30th, December 1st and December 2nd.

Auditions for the production are taking place this week on Wednesday (13th October) in JHT10 and Thursday (14th October) in JHT1. Both audition venues can be found on the first floor of John Hume Building.

There is no need to prepare any material for the auditions. A selection of scenes from the show will be available on each night of the auditions and you will be given plenty of time to rehearse the scene before performing it (with script in hand; don't worry!).

For all first timer members of the society, make sure you also audition for our First Timer's Festival (Facebook event page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=152819964756057&ref=mf).

Looking forward to seeing you at the auditions!

Upcoming Events

Just to fill you in on the many events we have already planned for the upcoming year.

Beginning at 7pm this Wednesday 26th September, we will be presenting a Stage Combat Workshop by Paul Burke from the Gaiety School of Acting in Rye Hall Lecture Theatre, next door to the PACR. This is the first of a series of workshops that will be run this year in conjunction with the Gaiety School of Acting. It looks like an extremely exciting event (If you want to get a gander at Paul's workshop in action check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mklzvTBX5RA), However there is a limit of 30 places on the workshop and it will be first come first served, so make sure to get your name down on the sign-up list on the drama society notice-board quickly. Participation in the workshop will cost only €3.

Later on in the semester there will be a programme of 6 acting workshops run by Gaiety school tutors, the first of which will be on the 8th of October at 7pm in the rye hall lecture theatre. There will also be two directing workshops, the first which will be on Wednesday the 10th of October. Again there will be limited places availible in this new initiative, information about this will be availible on Fairs Day and at the A.G.M.

Ah and speaking of the A.G.M., it has been organised for 6.30p.m. on Wednesday 3rd of October the evening of Fairs Day (venue yet to be confirmed). So make sure to be there and catch up on all the drama plans for the coming year. Who knows, there may even be a pre-Fresher's Ball beverage on offer!
For anyone interested in proposing a play, don't be shy and get it sent into the committee as soon as possible. For advice on how to draw up a proposal, check out our website: www.nuim-drama.com
